Term Dates / Absence

Application for a term-time absence

SICKNESS

Whilst it is preferable for children to attend school every session, we do understand that there are, times when they have to miss school because of illness. On these occasions, please inform school of absences either by telephone or by sending a note prior to 9.05am.

Please note that if your child has a sick bug or diarrhoea, they must remain off school for 48 hours AFTER their last bout, to help prevent bugs spreading. However, if your child has an isolated incidence of vomiting that may be due to something they have eaten, there is no need to keep them off for the full 48 hours.

We would be grateful if you could  inform us of any dental or medical appointments in advance.

TERM-TIME ABSENCE

PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY TERM-TIME ABSENCE WILL BE UNAUTHORISED UNLESS THERE ARE "EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES".

Please note that children in Years 1, 2 and 6 have statutory assessments:

Year 1 – phonics screen – June

Year 2 – Key Stage 1 SATs – May

Year 6 – Key Stage 2 SATs – May

Absences for children in these year groups either during these dates, or ahead of them, could have a significant negative impact on their education.

Children in all other year groups have their end of year assessments at this point of the year also, and so this point applies to them too.

If you are considering booking a holiday during term-time at any point in the year, our advice is to think about the impact it will have on your child’s education. However, please think particularly about the period between February half-term and the dates above as absence at this critical time of the year can be especially harmful. If Year 1, 2 and 6 children take holidays during this period, we will usually pursue the issuing of a Fixed Penalty Notice.

Please use the pro forma above to inform school of any planned term time absences.
