The end of a school year is always a great time to look back on what has been achieved, and to think about what we want to go going into September.
Whilst it has been a busy final week or two, there's still time to reflect a little, but I don't think I can do better than I did when I spoke to parents at our Music Evening after school yesterday.
I talked about how early yesterday morning, we finally received the delayed SATs results for our Year 6 children, and how that could have been the event that shaped the whole day - but it didn't.
We were all delighted with how well the Year 6's had done, as they achieved a strong set of results across the board. However, after sharing their results with them, it was straight on to helping them paint the bird houses they have worked so hard to build this week. They looked absolutely superb in the end, and the children were rightly proud of what they had made. From then, it was on to rehearsals and soundchecks for the Music Evening, which took place after the school day finished. Once again, the children did brilliantly well, and it was a pleasure to be involved in another superb performance.
I suppose the point of the story is to say that, whilst English and Maths are critical, and we spend a huge amount of time, energy and resource on getting them right, primary education is about much more than just those two subjects. Part of our mission is to help our children to find "the one thing" that will get them out of bed in the morning, and help them to look forward to the day. Of course, we try to help them find as many "one things" as we can - and they might well include playing an instrument, listening to interesting music or woodworking. With the range of opportunities we offer our children, I believe we've got a good chance of inspiring lifelong interests for them, and I'm as proud of that as anything our school does.
Thanks to everyone for their support once again this year; we appreciate you all, and we'll see you again in September.
