Design Technology in Key Stage 2

Classes 3 and 4 had a Design Technology-focused morning on Thursday this week.

Class 3 worked on making photo frames with Mr Peacock, while Class 4 made pizzas and side dishes with Mrs Lawman and Mrs Thornthwaite.

Despite it being one of the hottest days of the year, the children in both classes worked incredibly well, and really hard, to make excellent end products.

Class 3 learnt to use tenon saws safely along with bench hooks, sandpaper and wood glue.  Their final frames looked great, with them ending up being pretty square and sturdy.  Their patience with the process as they waited for the wood glue to dry was really impressive, and the way they all respected the tools was superb.   By the end of the session, everyone was very much "working like woodworkers", cutting side of the photo frames slightly long and correcting by sanding to final lengths.

Class 4 combined a range of tasty ingredients to make pizzas.  The children recapped the bridge and claw cutting techniques before chopping and preparing toppings including peppers, onions, mushrooms and chicken.  They made a healthy base using Greek yoghurt and flour (from a Phunky Foods recipe), and made their own sauce using chopped tomato and tomato purée.  They finally arranged everything ready to go in the oven at home! Again, everyone worked safely and behaviour was great throughout!
