It has been a challenging few days in school this week, with even Moresby suffering from the heat.  However, the children and staff have all done brilliantly, and I must thank parents for supporting us by sending the children into school with sun cream applied, sun hats, extra drinks and loose clothing. 

In class, behaviour has been really good, and we've worked hard to keep the building as cool as possible.  It hasn't always worked as well as we'd like, but the children have managed the stuffy classrooms well, and we've still got some good learning done.  

I enjoyed working with Class 3 yesterday morning as we built photo frames for this term's DT project.  The children learnt how important accurate measuring is, how to use tenon saws safely, and how to use bench hooks and sandpaper.  By the end of the morning, they were very much "working like woodworkers", and had learnt to cut lengths of dowel slightly long, and then sanding them down to reach the final length they wanted.   They also showed great patience by helping our elastic band clamps hold their frames in place while the wood glue started to dry.  Their final products were good, with many frames looking really neat and square. 

Hopefully, the weather will break for next week as we start to put the finishing touches to the summer show in school.  The children are really looking forward to sharing their version of Peter Pan with everyone at the Solway Hall on Thursday 9th July!
