Class 4 worked on a range of skills this week as they built bird houses in Design Technology.
It might be the last week of summer term, but Class 4 have been busy learning some key woodworking skills with Mr Peacock over the last few days. Having already settled on their designs and marked out their cutting list on the 9mm plywood board they had available, they practised their cutting skills before sawing and sanding their panels on Monday. They then glued up their structures (with a bit of help from Mr P) and left them to set overnight. Throughout, they followed instructions well and worked very safely, respecting the tools and using the techniques they had been taught.
On Tuesday, it was on to getting ready for a final finish as they sanded off any rough areas before painting two lots of outdoor undercoat on their bird houses so they'll be protected from the coming Cumbrian winter. They'll design and apply their final coats of paint tomorrow before taking their pieces to put up around their houses. We'd love to see some photographs of birds nesting in them on Seesaw!
