At our school, we believe that music is a powerful and enriching part of every child's education. Through our music curriculum, we aim to inspire a lifelong appreciation of music while developing pupils' confidence, creativity and musical understanding. We want all children to experience the joy of making music, performing, composing and listening, enabling them to express themselves and engage with a diverse range of musical traditions and cultures.

Our music curriculum is delivered through the Kapow Music scheme of work, which provides a carefully sequenced and progressive framework for developing musical knowledge and skills. Through high-quality teaching, pupils build their understanding of pulse, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, notation and musical vocabulary, while developing their ability to listen critically, perform confidently and compose creatively.

To further enrich our curriculum, pupils participate in a whole-class glockenspiel programme during the spring term. This provides valuable opportunities to develop instrumental skills, understand musical notation and perform as part of an ensemble. Learning culminates in participation in our annual Moresbury Music Festival, where children perform and celebrate their achievements with pride and confidence.

Our junior pupils also explore digital composition through GarageBand, using technology to create, arrange and refine their own musical pieces. This allows children to develop their creativity while gaining an understanding of how music can be composed, recorded and shared using modern technology.

We are committed to providing a wide range of musical enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom. Pupils can access instrumental tuition in guitar, keyboard and drums, participate in bands and perform as part of our school choir. These experiences encourage collaboration, resilience and self-expression while enabling children to develop their talents and discover new interests.

Through a broad, ambitious and inclusive music curriculum, we aim to ensure that every child develops the knowledge, skills and confidence to become an active musician, appreciative listener and enthusiastic participant in the musical life of the school and wider community.
